Garuda Asks What Happens After Death is told in the Garuda Purana by Suta to the sages led by Shaunaka at Naimisha, as a dialogue between Krishna (Vishnu) and Garuda. Garuda Purana 2.1.2, 2.1.7 Garuda asks who Death is, and how a living being dies and where he goes after dying. Garuda Purana 2.1.64, 2.1.31 In the same text, Krishna says that at the time of death the messengers of Yama seize the dying and lead them away toward their abode. Garuda Purana 2.2.45 The text says that great sinners who reach the dreadful hells are reborn on earth when the result of that karma is exhausted. Garuda Purana 2.2.60

      एक बार गरुड़ को सारी दुनिया देखनी थी। वो इधर-उधर घूमने लगा। हर जगह विष्णु भगवान का नाम लेता रहता था।

      वो नीचे पाताल में गया, धरती पे गया, स्वर्ग में भी गया। पर कहीं भी उसको सुकून नहीं मिला। दुनिया का दुख देख के बहुत दुखी हुआ। फिर वापस वैकुंठ आ गया।

      जहाँ रजस और तमस काम नहीं करते। वहाँ सत्व भी उनमें मिला नहीं होता। वहाँ कुछ और चलता नहीं। सिर्फ सत्व वहाँ रहता है।
