Outer meaning

O kindly Pūṣan, urge even the unwilling to give; even the Paṇi’s heart soften—break it open toward generosity.

Inner meaning

Pūṣan as gentle luminous force reshapes resistant parts of the nature. ‘The unwilling’ are inner movements that cling, hoard, or fear loss. The ‘Paṇi’ is not merely a hostile trader but the bargaining, calculating consciousness that withholds the light and demands profit—an inner miserliness of energy and goodwill. The mantra asks for a psychological conversion: soften the knot in the heart-mind so energies flow in offering, enabling the inner yajña to proceed.

Universal truth

Transformation includes moral-psychological alchemy: guidance must convert grasping and fear into generosity; what is withheld becomes available for growth when the heart softens.

Themes

Overcoming hoarding (Paṇi), Generosity, Inner conversion, Divine impulsion

Other hymns
RV 6.53 (Pūṣan as guide and benefactor), RV 10.108 (Paṇis episode—mythic background for the hoarders of light)

Family tradition

Aṅgirasa emphasis on releasing the ‘cows’ (rays) from hoarders; here the release is internalized as softening the Paṇi-nature.

Significance

The seer seeks not only external help but inner ethical transmutation—turning the grasping mind into an offering nature so the sacrifice can be complete.
