This six-verse hymn to Agni Jātavedas praises the fire-principle as the conscious knower who empowers the sacrificer when kindled with correct order and regular offerings. It turns from praise to confession and release: the poet asks Agni to forgive offences done through ‘unawakened’ understanding, to loosen the bonds of error, and to lead the worshipper across constriction into fuller life and victory.

Mantra 1
यस्त्वामग्न इनधते यतस्रुक्त्रिस्ते अन्नं कृणवत्सस्मिन्नहन् । स सु द्युम्नैरभ्यस्तु प्रसक्षत्तव क्रत्वा जातवेदश्चिकित्वान् ॥
जो इंसान तुम्हे अग्नि आग जलाता है, वो भी सही तरीके से, और दिन में तीन बार तुम्हारे लिए अन्न रखता है। ऐसे इंसान को तुम अपनी ताकत से घेर लो। जातवेदस, तुम्हे सब पता है, तुम्हारी मर्ज़ी से वो आगे बढ़ेगा।

इध्मं यस्ते जभरच्छश्रमाणो महो अग्ने अनीकमा सपर्यन् । स इधानः प्रति दोषामुषासं पुष्यन्रयिं सचते घ्नन्नमित्रान् ॥
जो मेहनत करके तुम्हारे लिए लकड़ी लाता है, अग्नि, तुम्हारे बड़े रूप की पूजा करता है। वो आग जलाता है, रात और सुबह दोनों को पाता है। उसके पास धन आता है, दुश्मन लोग उससे हार जाते हैं।

अग्निरीशे बृहतः क्षत्रियस्याग्निर्वाजस्य परमस्य रायः । दधाति रत्नं विधते यविष्ठो व्यानुषङ्मर्त्याय स्वधावान् ॥
अग्नि बड़ी ताकत का मालिक है। सबसे बड़े धन और शक्ति का भी मालिक अग्नि है। वो सबसे नया है, अपने आप में पूरा है। भगवान के भक्त के लिए वो अच्छी चीज़ें लाता है, इंसान के लिए वो सब फैला देता है।

यच्चिद्धि ते पुरुषत्रा यविष्ठाचित्तिभिश्चकृमा कच्चिदागः । कृधी ष्वस्माँ अदितेरनागान्व्येनांसि शिश्रथो विष्वगग्ने ॥
अग्नि, तुम सबसे नए हो, इंसान के लिए ताकत हो। अगर हमसे कोई गलती हो गई, हमारा दिमाग घूम गया था, तोह हमे माफ कर दो। अदिति की तरह हमे भी बड़ा बना दो। हमें सब तरफ से आज़ाद कर दो, हमारी पाप की रस्सियाँ खोल दो।

महश्चिदग्न एनसो अभीक ऊर्वाद्देवानामुत मर्त्यानाम् । मा ते सखायः सदमिद्रिषाम यच्छा तोकाय तनयाय शं योः ॥
अग्नि, बड़े पाप के पास से भी हमे बचा ले। जहाँ भगवान और इंसान रहते हैं, उस जगह से हमे दूर रख। तुम्हारा साथ है, इसलिए हमे कुछ नहीं होगा। हमारे बच्चों और उनके बच्चों को शांति और खुशी दे।

यथा ह त्यद्वसवो गौर्यं चित्पदि षिताममुञ्चता यजत्राः । एवो ष्वस्मन्मुञ्चता व्यंहः प्र तार्यग्ने प्रतरं न आयुः ॥
पहले भी वसुस ने गौरी को फाँस से छोड़ा था। वो भगवान के लायक थे। अब भी तुम हमें इस तंगी से छोड़ो। अग्नि, हमें आगे ले जाओ। ज़िन्दगी में और बड़ा सक्सेस दो।
