Agni Jātavedas

This short Agni-hymn praises Jātavedas as the freshly kindled, well-established priest of the sacrifice who brings “immortality” into the ritual seat. It describes Agni’s birth through churning and kindling, his delight among the Mothers (the kindling-sticks/waters), and asks him to accomplish Iḷā-inspired abundance, cattle/radiance, and strong offspring for the worshipper.

Mantra 1
निर्मथितः सुधित आ सधस्थे युवा कविरध्वरस्य प्रणेता । जूर्यत्स्वग्निरजरो वनेष्वत्रा दधे अमृतं जातवेदाः ॥
अग्नि को मथ के निकाला गया है, और वो पक्का है। यह यज्ञ के स्थान पर आता है। वो नया है, ज्ञानी है, और यज्ञ का काम चलाता है। जंगल में लकड़ियाँ बढ़ती हैं, लेकिन अग्नि कभी बूढ़ा नहीं होता। जातवेदस रूप वाला अग्नि यहाँ अमृत रखता है।

अमन्थिष्टां भारता रेवदग्निं देवश्रवा देववातः सुदक्षम् । अग्ने वि पश्य बृहताभि रायेषां नो नेता भवतादनु द्यून् ॥
भारतों ने चमकदार अग्नि को मथ के निकाला है। देवश्रवा और देववात, यह दोनों इस काम में बहुत स्किल्ड हैं। हे अग्नि, आस-पास सब देख, बड़ी नज़र से। हमें आगे बढ़ा, दिन के बाद दिन, अच्छे जीवन तक पहुँचा।

दश क्षिपः पूर्व्यं सीमजीजनन्त्सुजातं मातृषु प्रियम् । अग्निं स्तुहि दैववातं देवश्रवो यो जनानामसद्वशी ॥
दस बार जल्दी आग लगाई, और वो पैदा हुआ। वो पुराना है, अच्छे से पैदा हुआ है, और माँ लोगों को प्यारा है। देवश्रवा, अग्नि की तारीफ कर, वो देवताओं से इंस्पायर्ड है। वो लोगों का मालिक बन के बैठा है।

नि त्वा दधे वर आ पृथिव्या इळायास्पदे सुदिनत्वे अह्नाम् । दृषद्वत्यां मानुष आपयायां सरस्वत्यां रेवदग्ने दिदीहि ॥
मैं तुम्हे धरती पर एक चुने हुए स्थान पर बिठाता हूँ। यह इला का स्थान है, और दिन खुश रहें इसलिए। दृषद्वती नदी में, इंसान लोगों के इलाके में, आपया में, सरस्वती में, हे चमकदार अग्नि, चमक के दिख।

इळामग्ने पुरुदंसं सनिं गोः शश्वत्तमं हवमानाय साध । स्यान्नः सूनुस्तनयो विजावाग्ने सा ते सुमतिर्भूत्वस्मे ॥
हे अग्नि, जो तुम्हे पुकारता है उसके लिए इला का काम पूरा कर। यह ज्ञानी लोगों का काम है, बहुत अच्छा है, और हमेशा चलता रहे। हमें बेटा मिले, जो जीता रहे और आगे बढ़ता रहे। हे अग्नि, यह तुम्हारी कृपा हो, हम पर अच्छा भाव रखो।
