Sukta 1.84
नकिष्ट्वद्रथीतरो हरी यदिन्द्र यच्छसे । नकिष्ट्वानु मज्मना नकिः स्वश्व आनशे ॥
nákiṣ ṭvád rathī́taro hárī yád indra yácchase | nákiṣ ṭvā́nu májmanā nákiḥ sváśva ānaśe ||
Indra-stuti emphasizing incomparable mastery and generosity; supports confidence in receiving boons during Soma offerings
Grace as deliberate giving (yacchase), Majman (greatness of being), Unmatched guidance of forces (rathī)
Indra’s unmatched charioteering is the right steering of forces in accord with ṛta, not the crooked motion of desire.
The ‘none attains’ motif points to the singularity of truth-conscious guidance versus many partial mentalities.
Governance of energies: the cosmos and the individual advance by a supreme directing intelligence.
Integral psychological theism: deity as inner function/power of consciousness.
Chariot-driving symbolizes steering the prāṇic and mental currents; ‘own horses’ indicates unyoked vital drives that cannot reach the divine standard of movement.
Surrender the steering-function to the higher intelligence; observe and yoke the paired energies (thought and life).
ājñā (brow)
Even breathing with a slight emphasis on exhale during ‘nakiṣ’ refrains to drop egoic strain; silent pause after each ‘nakiṣ’ to feel certainty.
Confident, guided, inwardly obedient.
Notice where you try to ‘attain by your own horses’—pure willpower without alignment. Offer that effort upward, then listen for the calmer, clearer directive that arrives when Indra ‘chooses to give’.
Refrain-like ‘nakiṣ’ phrases should keep sharp udātta where marked; preserve the emphatic cadence without shouting.
Articulate each ‘nakiṣ’ distinctly; keep ‘tvat’ and ‘tvānu’ crisp; do not swallow final visargas (if present in recensional reading).
nakiṣ: final ṣ (retroflex), tvat: clear ‘tv’ cluster, rathītaraḥ: long ī; final ḥ lightly, harī: long ī, yacchase: gemination ‘cch’, tvānu: long ā, majmanā: ‘jm’ cluster; long ā at end, svaśva: ś (palatal) + v; avoid ‘svasva’, ānaśe: long ā; ś (palatal)
Firm, declarative, steady; confidence without aggression.
