Anuvaka 6

TS 7.2 functions as a ritual-architectural dossier for sattra-style Somayāga extensions, presenting a graded ladder of multi-night observances (ṣaḍrātra through dvādaśarātra/dvādaśāha) and encoding their efficacy through stoma-number theology (trivṛt, pañcadaśa, saptadaśa, ekaviṃśa, triṇava, trayastriṃśa, etc.). The text repeatedly binds ritual time to cosmic time: ṛtus, saṃvatsara, directions, and ‘ascent’ pathways (devayāna). It also supplies pragmatic viniyoga rules for selecting specific grahas (e.g., Aindravāyava, Maitrāvaruṇa, Āśvina, Śukra, Manthya, Āgrayana, Ukthya) under particular contingencies, thereby stabilizing the yajña’s ‘fit’ (kḷpti) when human or environmental conditions threaten continuity. The closing anuvākas shift into enumerative offering-formulas (saṃkhyā-hutayaḥ), a digital-friendly lattice that mirrors the combinatorics of sattra counting and completion (pūrṇatā) within the altar-space logic.

Mantra 1

Mantra 2

Mantra 3

Commentary nexus

  • Sayana FocusVedārthaprakāśa typically clarifies bandhu links (ṛtu–stoma–chandas), resolves apparent sequence anomalies (e.g., why certain grahas appear on specific days), and glosses technical sattra terms (kḷpti, pratyakṣa, devayāna).
  • Bhatta Bhaskara FocusBhāskara’s style emphasizes operational hermeneutics: how the vidhi portions constrain priestly options, how ‘pūrṇa-graha’ logic repairs ritual discontinuities, and how number-lists function as completion-operators in sattra accounting.

Ritual choreography

  • Shrauta Sutra RefEkādaśarātra sattra rules; pr̥ṣṭhya ṣaḍaha insertion; framing atirātras.
  • Adhvaryu ActionImplements Ekādaśarātra for progeny/continuity themes; places a pr̥ṣṭhya ṣaḍaha inside and frames with atirātras to ‘enclose’ generativity; aligns 24/44/48 with gāyatrī/triṣṭubh/jagatī.

Philosophical arthavada

  • Taittiriya Brahmana CitationTB chandas-number bandhus and sattra framing logic — edition-dependent.
  • Esoteric MeaningThe year’s generativity is encoded as metrical stability: gāyatrī/triṣṭubh/jagatī become ‘seats’ where radiance, power, and living abundance are ritually installed; framing atirātras act as boundary-walls of continuity.

Frequently Asked Questions

To prescribe Ekādaśarātra as a continuity/progeny-oriented sattra, using pr̥ṣṭha-based seasonal ascent and chandas-number anchoring, with atirātra framing as a ritual enclosure.

Ensure consistent orthography for chandas names and numeral adjectives; for computational work, treat 24/44/48 as both numeric tokens and lexical forms (caturviṃśa, catuścatvāriṃśa, aṣṭācatvāriṃśa).
