With reverences I call on Soma, on Savitar, on all the Ādityas, for superiority. This Agni shall blaze forth long indeed—kindled among my peers, with none to gainsay.
Rishi: Atharvanic tradition (rāṣṭra/status cycle)
Devata: Soma, Savitar, Ādityas; Agni
Chandas: Triṣṭubh-like (probable)
Primary: vira
Secondary: adbhuta
Sāyaṇa interprets ‘uttaratva’ as precedence and higher standing, sought through invoking sovereign deities (Ādityas) and Soma’s kingly vigor. Agni’s long shining is read as enduring fame/authority established in the social arena. ‘Apratibrūvadbhiḥ’ is taken as ‘without opponents’—a wish that one’s claim/speech not be contradicted, aligning the fire’s uncontested blaze with uncontested status.
To obtain superiority and unopposed standing among peers, with enduring public manifestation of authority (Agni’s long blaze).
Agni as jāṭharāgni metaphor for steady competence; Soma as ojas-support—used here for social vitality rather than clinical therapy.
Confidence-building and resilience practices; social anxiety reduction via ‘legitimacy narrative’ and visible competence.
paustika
The chanter’s status within a peer cohort
Gain superiority and unopposed standing among peers; ensure one’s authority remains steadily visible and uncontested.
Public-sign magic: declare Agni’s long blaze as an objective correlate of social dominance; invoke Āditya-law to neutralize opposition speech.
Contradiction, rivalry, reputational challenge
Authority, influence, recognition
The speaker reverently calls Soma, Savitar, and all the Ādityas for ‘superiority’. Then Agni is declared to blaze long—kindled among one’s peers, with none to contradict.
Superiority is not mere dominance: Soma supplies inner vigor/joy and cohesive ‘kingly’ confidence; Savitar impels rightful action; Ādityas stabilize social legality. Agni is the public signal—steady, enduring visibility of one’s authority, unchallenged because it is properly kindled (rightly established among peers).
Lasting precedence arises when vitality, right initiative, and lawful order converge—then one’s ‘fire’ shines without needing to silence others; opposition falls away because the center is legitimate.
Kindle the ‘steady flame’ of competence and ethical visibility; let opposition dissolve through legitimacy rather than force.
Maṇipūra (fire/authority) and Viśuddha (unopposed speech).
Kapalabhāti (mild) or steady ujjāyī to ‘ignite’ inner fire; avoid if contraindicated.
A tall, steady flame at the navel rising to the throat; moon-cool Soma nectar stabilizing the flame so it does not flare destructively.
Bright, fearless clarity under ‘daylight law’.
Chant 7 or 11 times, then do one concrete act that demonstrates competence (Agni as visible proof), keeping commitments (Āditya ethic).
Emphasize udātta on somaṃ, savitāram, ādityān, agniḥ; keep strong cadence on dīdāyat and apratibruvadbhiḥ.
Make a clear pause after uttaratve; deliver the Agni-declaration as a firm performative statement.
In ādityām̐, nasalization is light; don’t over-nasalize, dīdāyat: lengthen ī and ā, apratibruvadbhiḥ: articulate -bruv- and -dbh- cluster carefully, not ‘broo’
Bright, forward, proclamation-like (without shouting).
Pairs well with an actual flame/lamp as ‘witness’; Atharvan efficacy often relies on coupling declaration with a visible sign.
7
Seeking recognition, defending a thesis/argument, leadership bid, public performance, competitive exam.
Before the event; ideally in daylight; with a lamp lit if possible.
Increased confidence, steadier presence, reduced fear of contradiction, clearer ‘public signal’ of competence.
Avoid inflaming ego; keep Soma’s cooling balance—do not turn ‘superiority’ into contempt.
Sandhi resolution: (1) नमो॑भि॒र्विश्वा॑नादि॒त्याँ → नमोभिः + विश्वान् + आदित्यान् (visarga before v; n→n assimilation in saṃhitā). (2) अ॒हमु॑त्तर॒त्वे → अहम् + उत्तरत्वे (m + u → mu). (3) अ॒यम॒ग्निर्दी॑दायद् → अयम् + अग्निः + दीदायद् (m + a → ma; visarga before d). (4) स॑जा॒तैरि॒द्धोऽप्र॑तिब्रुवद्भिः → सजातैः + इद्धः + अप्रतिब्रुवद्भिः (ḥ + i → r; इद्धोऽ = इद्धः + अ- with avagraha).
