निर्भर्त्सनं ततस्तेषामन्योन्यमभिजल्पनम् ॥ श्रुत्वा शुकस्य गोकर्णः शशंसात्मविनिन्दनम् ॥

nirbhartsanaṁ tatas teṣām anyonyam abhijalpanam || śrutvā śukasya gokarṇaḥ śaśaṁsātma-vinindanam ||

तत्पश्चात् उनके परस्पर तिरस्कार और वाद-विवाद को सुनकर, शुक के सामने गोकर्ण ने आत्म-निन्दा प्रकट की।
