Dharmas that Grant Ease on the Path to Yama
śayyāsanapradānena sukhaṃ yāti suviśramam | ārāmacchāyākartāro mārge vā vṛkṣaropakāḥ | vrajanti yamalokaṃ ca ātape'ti gataklamāḥ
Lord Shiva (teaching Umā/Parvati on dharma and the fruits of charity)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: teaching
The verse teaches that compassionate dāna—especially providing rest, shelter, and shade—creates puṇya that alleviates suffering and fatigue, refining the soul’s karmic condition and supporting a dharmic life oriented toward Shiva’s grace.
Serving living beings by giving comfort and protection is presented as a practical extension of devotion to Saguna Shiva—the Lord who pervades all; such service becomes an offering aligned with Shiva’s dharma, complementing Linga worship.
A direct takeaway is charitable service (sevā-dāna): donating a seat/bed, building a rest-shed, or planting roadside trees as a vow, ideally accompanied by japa of the Panchakshara mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya.”
