Jyotirlinga: Ghṛṣṇeśvara
Sthala Purana: Colophon explicitly frames the chapter as the māhātmya of the manifestation (utpatti) of the Dhuśmeśa Jyotirliṅga, identified in later/common tradition with Ghṛṣṇeśvara among the twelve.
Significance: Textual authority-marker: establishes the episode as kṣetra-māhātmya supporting tīrtha-yātrā and liṅga-darśana as a merit-bearing act.
This is the chapter-colophon, marking the completion of the teaching on the Dhuśmeśa Jyotirlinga’s manifestation and its māhātmya—affirming that Shiva, as Jyotis (divine Light), becomes accessible to devotees through a sacred, worship-worthy form.
By naming the topic as “Jyotirliṅga-utpatti-māhātmya,” it frames the Liṅga as Shiva’s compassionate, saguna focus for devotion—through which the nirguna Reality is approached by darśana, pūjā, and remembrance.
It implicitly points to Jyotirlinga pilgrimage and Liṅga-pūjā—especially abhiṣeka with devotion, japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), and disciplined worship aligned with Shaiva observances.
