गङ्गा त्रिपथगा राजन् दिव्या भागीरथीति च।त्रीन् पथो भावयन्तीति ततस्त्रिपथगा स्मृता।।1.44.6।।

Transliteration

gaṅgā tripathagā rājan divyā bhāgīrathī iti ca | trīn patho bhāvayantī iti tatas tripathagā smṛtā || 1.44.6 ||

Translation

हे राजन्! दिव्य गङ्गा ‘भागीरथी’ और ‘त्रिपथगा’ भी कहलाती है। वह तीनों लोक-पथों को पावन करती है, इसलिए ‘त्रिपथगा’ स्मरण की जाती है।
