FAQs

It presents a devotional-cosmological identification: Viṣṇu as Mādhava is associated with the illuminating sovereignty of the Sun, while Soma is described as a bestower of lunar essence/nectar, positioned on a ‘left-side path’ within the described cosmic arrangement.

By placing Mādhava (Viṣṇu) in the role of the supreme luminous ruler (linked with Sūrya), the verse frames cosmic functions—illumination and governance—as expressions of Viṣṇu’s sovereignty.

Illumination (udyota) functions as a metaphor for dharma and discernment: aligning with the divine order dispels confusion, while Soma’s ‘giving’ suggests nourishment and steadiness—both supporting a life oriented toward clarity and right conduct.
