Adhyaya 57 — The Ninefold Divisions of Bharata: Mountains, Rivers, and Peoples
विन्ध्यश्च पारियात्रश्च सप्तैवात्र कुलाचलाः ।
तेषां सहस्रशश्चान्ये भूधराः ये समीपगाः ॥
vindhyaś ca pāriyātraś ca saptaivātra kulācalāḥ | teṣāṃ sahasraśaś cānye bhūdharā ye samīpagāḥ ||
विन्ध्य और पारियात्र—इस प्रकार यहाँ सात ‘कुलाचल’ पर्वत-समूह बताए गए हैं। इनके निकट सहस्रों अन्य आधार-रूप सहायक पर्वत भी हैं।

The Purāṇa emphasizes structural order: major supports (kulācalas) and innumerable minor supports (bhūdharas). Analogously, dharma has principal pillars and many subsidiary practices.
‘Sthāna’—classification of the earth’s features.
‘Earth-holders’ evoke the idea that stability—inner and outer—is maintained by enduring supports. In yogic symbolism, steadiness (sthiti) is prerequisite for higher attainment.
