Adhyaya 22 — Kuvalayashva’s Death through Daitya-Deceit and Madalasa’s Self-Immolation
tāḥ śocyā yā viyoginyo na śocyā yā mṛtāḥ saha |
bhartrā viyogas tv anayā nānubhūtaḥ kṛtajñayā ||

The passage reframes ‘pitiability’ as tied to ongoing worldly deprivation (continued separation), while construing death-with as completion of a vow and an expression of kṛtajñatā.
Didactic ethics (ācāra) within story; not pañcalakṣaṇa.
‘Not experiencing separation’ can symbolize non-duality of commitment—when the inner principle (dharma/īṣṭa) is held as inseparable, existential ‘viyoga’ is overcome.
