अहिंस्न: शुचिरक्षुद्रो निराशी: कर्मसंस्तुत: । आरण्यकपदोदभूता भागास्तत्रोपकल्पिता:
ahiṃsnaḥ śucir akṣudro nirāśīḥ karmasaṃstutaḥ | āraṇyakapadodbhūtā bhāgās tatropakalpitāḥ ||
भीष्म ने कहा—वे अहिंसक, पवित्र, उदार और कामनारहित थे; प्रशंसनीय भाव से कर्म में प्रवृत्त हुए थे। उस यज्ञ में देवताओं के भाग वन में उत्पन्न फल-मूल आदि पदार्थों से ही निश्चित और समर्पित किए गए थे।
