मानुष्यमसुखं प्राप्प य: सज्जति स मुहाृति । नालं स दुःखमोक्षाय संयोगो दुःखलक्षणम्
mānuṣyam asukhaṁ prāpya yaḥ sajjati sa muhyati | nālaṁ sa duḥkhamokṣāya saṁyogo duḥkhalakṣaṇaḥ ||
जहाँ सुख का नाम भी नहीं है, ऐसे इस मानव-शरीर को पाकर जो विषयों में आसक्त होता है, वह मोह को प्राप्त होता है। विषयों का संयोग दुःखरूप ही है, अतः दुःखों से छुटकारा नहीं दिला सकता।
नारद उवाच
Human life is easily wasted in attachment; sense-contact (saṁyoga) is inherently bound up with suffering, so liberation from sorrow requires detachment and a higher pursuit than enjoyment of objects.
In the didactic discourse of Śānti Parva, Nārada instructs the listener by warning that attachment to worldly objects after gaining a rare human birth leads to delusion and cannot bring freedom from suffering.
