उपह्वरे निवसतो यस्याड्के निषसाद ह । गड़ा भागीरथी तस्मादुर्वशी चाभवत् पुरा,“तटके निकट निवास करते समय गंगाजी राजा भगीरथकी गोदमें आ बैठी थीं। इसलिये वे पूर्वकालमें भागीरथी और उर्वशी नामसे प्रसिद्ध हुईं

वायु ने कहा—नदी-तट के निकट निवास करते समय एक बार गंगा उनके अंक में आ बैठी थीं। उसी प्राचीन प्रसंग से वे ‘भागीरथी’ और ‘उर्वशी’ नामों से प्रसिद्ध हुईं।
