Śoka-śamana: Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation and Nārada’s Exempla to Sṛñjaya
Chapter 29
yuvā śyāmo lohitākṣo mātaga iva yūthapaḥ | ājānubāhuḥ sumukhaḥ siṁhaskandho mahābhujaḥ ||
The verse presents an idealized portrait of a righteous hero: physical signs of strength (mighty arms, lion-like shoulders, commanding presence) are framed as instruments for protecting others and sustaining dharma, not as mere ornamentation.
Vāyu is speaking and describes Rāma’s appearance and heroic stature—youthful, dark-complexioned, red-tinged eyes, elephant-herd-leader-like power, long arms, handsome face, and lion-like shoulders—setting up Rāma as an exemplar of noble capability.
