चिरकारि-उपाख्यानम् / The Exemplum of Cirakārī: Deliberation Before Irreversible Action
सर्व प्रियाभ्युपगतं धर्ममाहुर्मनीषिण: । पश्यैतं लक्षणोद्देशं धर्माधर्मे युधिछ्ठिर
sarva-priyābhyupagataṁ dharmam āhur manīṣiṇaḥ | paśyaitaṁ lakṣaṇoddeśaṁ dharmādharmayoḥ yudhiṣṭhira ||
भीष्म ने कहा—मनीषी पुरुष कहते हैं कि सबके प्रति प्रेमपूर्ण सद्भाव से जो आचरण होता है, वही धर्म है। हे युधिष्ठिर, धर्म और अधर्म का यह संक्षिप्त लक्षण देखो: जो सार्वभौम हित-भाव और प्रेम के अनुकूल है, वही धर्म है; जो उसके विपरीत है, वही अधर्म।
