कालेन कृष्णाश्न सिताश्न रात्र्य: कालेन चन्द्र: परिपूर्णबिम्ब: । नाकालत: पुष्पफल द्रुमाणां नाकालवेगा: सरितो वहन्ति
kālena kṛṣṇāś ca sitāś ca rātryaḥ kālena candraḥ paripūrṇa-bimbaḥ | nākālataḥ puṣpa-phala-drūmāṇāṃ nākāla-vegāḥ sarito vahanti ||
व्यास ने कहा—समय आने पर ही अँधेरी और उजली रातें होती हैं; समय आने पर ही चन्द्रमा पूर्ण मण्डल होता है। असमय में वृक्षों में फूल-फल नहीं लगते और न नदियाँ अपने उचित वेग से बहती हैं। इसलिए फल समय और अवसर से ही उत्पन्न होते हैं—मनुष्य को धैर्य और विवेक से, प्राकृतिक क्रम के विरुद्ध उतावली किए बिना कर्म करना चाहिए।
