Daṇḍotpatti-kathana (Origin and Function of Daṇḍa) — वसुहोम–मान्धातृ संवाद
भर्तप्रत्यय उत्पन्नो व्यवहारस्तथापर: । तस्माद् यः स हितो दृष्टो भर्तप्रत्ययलक्षण:
bhartapratyaya utpanno vyavahāras tathāparaḥ | tasmād yaḥ sa hito dṛṣṭo bhartapratyayalakṣaṇaḥ ||
भीष्म बोले— स्वामी/अधिकार के प्रति विश्वास से भी एक प्रकार का व्यवहार (न्याय-प्रक्रिया) उत्पन्न होता है, जो वादी-प्रतिवादी के विवाद से उठने वाले व्यवहार से भिन्न है। इसलिए ऐसे विश्वास के आधार पर जो निर्णय या दण्ड दिया जाता है, वह ‘भर्तृप्रत्ययलक्षण’ कहलाता है; और वह समस्त जगत के लिए हितकर माना गया है।
