Ānṛśaṃsya, Amātya-Guṇa, and Reconciliatory Counsel (आनृशंस्य–अमात्यगुण–संधि-उपदेशः)
सुसंगृहीतस्त्वेवैष त्वया धर्मपुरोगम: । संसेव्यमान: शरत्रूंस्ते गृल्लीयान्महतो गणान्
su-saṅgṛhītastv evaiṣa tvayā dharma-puro-gamaḥ | saṃsevyamānaḥ śatrūṃs te grāsīyān mahato gaṇān ||
भीष्म बोले—“यदि तुम धर्म को अग्रभाग में रखकर, संयमपूर्वक, इसे सम्मान सहित अपना लो, तो यह—सेवित और आश्रित होने पर—तुम्हारे शत्रुओं के बड़े-से-बड़े समुदायों को भी दबा देने में समर्थ होगा।”
भीष्म उवाच
Power becomes truly effective and legitimate when governed by dharma and disciplined practice; a dharma-led, well-controlled principle can subdue even overwhelming opposition.
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma is instructing the listener on righteous conduct and effective governance; here he emphasizes that the method under discussion, when adopted with dharma foremost and steadily cultivated, can overcome great enemy forces.
