भयातुरा एकरथौ समाश्रयं- स्ततो5भवत् त्वद्धुतमेव सर्वतः | तत्पश्चात् आपके और शत्रुपक्षेके सैनिक जब बाणोंसे फैले हुए अन्धकारमें कुछ भी देख न सके
sañjaya uvāca | bhayāturā ekarathau samāśrayaṃs tato 'bhavat tvadbhutam eva sarvataḥ | tatpaścāt āpake ca śatrupakṣe ca sainikāḥ yadā bāṇaiḥ prasṛte 'ndhakāre kiñcid api na paśyanti sma, tadā bhayāturāḥ tau dvau pradhāna-rathī samāśritāḥ | tataḥ sarvata adbhutaṃ yuddham abhavat ||
भय से व्याकुल होकर योद्धा उन दोनों प्रधान रथियों की शरण में जा पहुँचे। तब चारों ओर अद्भुत और घोर युद्ध छिड़ गया। फिर जब आपके और शत्रुपक्ष के सैनिक बाण-वर्षा से फैले अन्धकार में कुछ भी न देख सके, तब भयाक्रान्त होकर वे उन दोनों महावीरों की रक्षा में सिमट आए; और उसके बाद दिशाओं-दिशाओं में युद्ध आश्चर्यजनक और अत्यन्त तीव्र हो उठा।
