Bhīmasena–Drauṇi Mahāyuddha
Chariot Duel and Astra-Exchange
tatastu tvarayan yodhān śaṅkhaśabdena māriṣa | karṇo niṣkarṣayāmāsa kauravāṇāṃ mahad balam ||
The verse highlights the ethical gravity of martial leadership: a commander’s call (symbolized by the conch) organizes collective action and hastens many toward battle. It implicitly points to kṣatriya-duty—decisive command and readiness—while reminding that such urgency carries responsibility for the consequences of war.
Sañjaya reports that Karṇa, using the conch-blast as a signal, urges the warriors to move quickly and leads the large Kaurava force out from the camp, indicating the army’s immediate preparation to engage in battle.
