भीष्मस्य मध्याह्नयुद्धवर्णनम् / Mid-day Battle Description: Bhīṣma Engaged by the Pāñcālas
उष्णीषैश्व तथा चित्रैविंप्रविद्धेस्ततस्तत: । विचिन्रैर्बाणवषैश्व॒ जातरूपपरिष्कृतै:
sañjaya uvāca | uṣṇīṣaiś ca tathā citrair vipraviddhais tatas tataḥ | vicitrair bāṇavarṣaiś ca jātarūpa-pariṣkṛtaiḥ ||
संजय बोले—वहाँ-तहाँ चित्र-विचित्र उष्णीष (पगड़ी आदि) उछलकर गिर पड़े थे। और जलधारा की भाँति सुवर्ण-भूषित नाना प्रकार के बाणों की वर्षा हुई थी। रणभूमि राज-गौरव और युद्ध-वैभव के महँगे अवशेषों से पट गई थी, जिन्हें युद्ध की निष्पक्ष हिंसा ने कचरा-सा कर दिया था।
