Inquiry into the cause of Arjuna’s recurring hardship
Book 14, Chapter 89
vyabhajanta dvijātibhyo yathotsāhaṃ yathāsukham |
The verse highlights dāna as an essential limb of dharma in sacrificial contexts: wealth gained or gathered for yajña should be redistributed to the deserving (especially the dvija recipients) with sincerity and joy, not reluctance or attachment.
During the Ashvamedha-related proceedings, the gathered wealth is being apportioned and given out to the twice-born recipients. The emphasis is on the manner of giving—energetically and happily—reflecting the successful completion and ethical fulfillment of the rite.
