Marutta–Indra Rivalry and Bṛhaspati’s Priestly Refusal
tvam ājahartha devānām eko vīraśriyaṁ parām | tvaṁ bibharṣi bhuvaṁ dyāṁ ca sadaiva balasūdana ||
The verse frames ideal power as dharmic guardianship: true heroism is not mere conquest but sustaining order—protecting the world (earth) and the higher moral-cosmic realm (heaven).
Vyāsa addresses a celebrated hero with an honorific epithet, praising him as uniquely responsible for securing divine welfare and for continually upholding and safeguarding both earthly and heavenly domains.
