Transliteration

aśokas tāraṇas tāraḥ śūraḥ śaurir janeśvaraḥ | anukūlaḥ śatāvartaḥ padmī padmanibhekṣaṇaḥ ||

Translation

भीष्म ने कहा—वह अशोक है, समस्त शोक से रहित; तारण, जो संसार-सागर से पार उतारता है; और तार, जो जन्म-जरा-मृत्यु के भय से उबारता है। वह शूर है; शौरि (वसुदेव-नन्दन); जनेश्वर, समस्त जीवों का स्वामी। वह अनुकूल है, अन्तर्यामी आत्मा होने से सबके हितकारी; शतावर्त, धर्म-रक्षा हेतु सैकड़ों अवतार लेनेवाला; पद्मी, कमलधारी; और पद्मनिभेक्षण, कमल-सम कोमल दृष्टिवाला।
