ईश्वरो विक्रमी धन्वी मेधावी विक्रम: क्रम: । अनुत्तमो दुराधर्ष: कृतज्ञ: कृतिरात्मवान्
īśvaro vikramī dhanvī medhāvī vikramaḥ kramaḥ | anuttamo durādharṣaḥ kṛtajñaḥ kṛtir ātmavān ||
भीष्म बोले—वे ईश्वर हैं, सर्वशक्तिमान्; विक्रमी, शूरवीर; धन्वी, धनुषधारी; मेधावी, परम बुद्धिमान; विक्रम और क्रम—पराक्रम तथा उद्देश्यपूर्ण गति के स्वरूप। वे अनुत्तम, सर्वोत्कृष्ट; दुराधर्ष, अजेय; कृतज्ञ, अल्प-से अर्पण को भी महान माननेवाले; कृति, समस्त पुरुषार्थ का आधार; और आत्मवान्—अपनी ही महिमा में स्थित, आत्मसंयमी।
