Sukta 2
mā́ te máno mā́ ásor mā́ṅgā́nāṃ mā́ rásasya te | mā́ te hāsta tanvàḥ kím canéhá
Let not thy mind be lost; let not thy vital breath, nor thy limbs, nor thy sap be lost. Let not aught of thy body fail thee here—no, not the least thing.
Rishi: Traditionally associated with Atharvanic seers in the funerary book (AV 18); specific r̥ṣi attribution varies by anukramaṇī tradition for individual verses.
Devata: Protective apotropaic address to the deceased’s faculties (manas, asu, rasa) within the Pitṛ-rite frame
Chandas: Anuṣṭubh (predominant in AV 18; this verse conforms to the funerary anuṣṭubh style)
Primary: shanta
Secondary: karuna
