तपश्चैवास्तां कर्म चान्तर्महत्यर्णवे। तपो ह जज्ञे कर्मणस्तत् ते ज्येष्ठमुपासत
tápaś caívāstāṃ kárma caántar maháty árṇave | tápo ha jajñé kármaṇas tát te jyéṣṭham upā́sata |
Austerity and Act were there, within the mighty flood. From Act, in sooth, was Austerity born: that did they wait upon as eldest and as chief.
महान् अर्णव (महासागर-तुल्य प्रवाह) के भीतर तपस् और कर्म—दोनों थे। निश्चय ही कर्म से तपस् उत्पन्न हुआ; उसी को उन्होंने ज्येष्ठ और प्रधान मानकर उपासित किया।
