Dīpadāna-vrata (The Vow of Offering Lamps)
भगवान अग्नि दीपदान-व्रत को भुक्ति और मुक्ति देने वाला बताते हैं। देवालय या ब्राह्मण के घर एक वर्ष तक दीप जलाने से सर्वसमृद्धि मिलती है; विशेषतः चातुर्मास्य और कार्त्तिक में इसका पुण्य सर्वोपरि है, जिससे विष्णुलोक-प्राप्ति और स्वर्गीय भोग मिलते हैं। फिर ललिता की कथा में विष्णु-मंदिर के दीप से जुड़ा एक अनायास कर्म भी महाफलदायक हुआ और वह राजकुल में जन्म लेकर दाम्पत्य-समृद्धि से युक्त हुई। दीप-चोरी की कठोर निंदा है—मूक/जड़ जन्म और अंधकार-नरक में पतन का फल। इंद्रियभोग, दुष्काम और परस्त्रीगमन को त्यागकर हरिनाम-जप और सरल अर्पण—विशेषतः दीपदान—का उपदेश दिया गया है। अंत में कहा है कि दीपदान सभी व्रतों के फल को बढ़ाता है और इस उपदेश के श्रवण-आचरण से ऊर्ध्वगति होती है।
