Aṣṭamī-vratāni — Jayantī (Janmāṣṭamī) Vrata with Rohiṇī in Bhādrapada
अग्निदेव अष्टमी-व्रतों का आरम्भ भाद्रपद कृष्णपक्ष की उस अष्टमी से करते हैं जो रोहिणी नक्षत्र से युक्त हो—इसे श्रीकृष्ण के जन्म-संयोग के कारण ‘जयन्ती’ कहा गया है। यह व्रत मध्यरात्रि-केंद्रित पूजा-विधान है: उपवास से अंतःशुद्धि करके देव-प्रतिष्ठा की जाती है और कृष्ण के साथ बलभद्र तथा देवकी, वसुदेव, यशोदा, नन्द आदि का आवाहन होता है। मंत्रोच्चार सहित स्नान, अर्घ्य, पुष्प, धूप, दीप, नैवेद्य आदि उपचार अर्पित कर गोविन्द को योग, यज्ञ, धर्म और जगत् का कारण मानकर स्तुति की जाती है। विशेष रूप से रोहिणी सहित चन्द्र-पूजन और शशाङ्क को अर्घ्य दिया जाता है। मध्यरात्रि में घी-मिश्रित गुड़ की धाराएँ पवित्र नामों के साथ अर्पित होती हैं। अंत में वस्त्र व स्वर्ण का दान और ब्राह्मण-भोजन किया जाता है। फल—सात जन्मों के पापों का नाश, संतान-लाभ, वार्षिक व्रत से निर्भयता और विष्णुलोक-प्राप्ति; भुक्ति और मुक्ति दोनों का संयोग।
