FAQs

This verse conveys vamśa-vidyā (genealogical knowledge): a precise lineage chain used in Purāṇic historiography to authenticate traditions, teachers, and transmission of sacred lore.

By cataloging lineages (vamśa), the Agni Purāṇa functions like a reference index—linking sages and families across narratives, which supports its broader compendium-style coverage of dharma, rites, and traditional authority.

Remembering and reciting sacred lineages is traditionally treated as smṛti-sevā—honoring ṛṣis and ancestral transmitters—supporting faith in śāstra, continuity of dharma, and merit through reverent remembrance.
