This verse imparts vamśa-vidyā (genealogical knowledge): a precise succession of royal/progenitor names used for preserving dynastic memory and Purāṇic historiography.
By cataloging lineages, the Agni Purana functions as a reference work for dynastic history alongside its other domains (ritual, dharma, polity, arts), showing its encyclopedic scope beyond purely devotional material.
Recitation and remembrance of righteous lineages is traditionally treated as smṛti-dharma support—strengthening continuity of dharma through ancestral memory and reinforcing the Purāṇic ideal of kingship rooted in sacred tradition.
