Maitreya Upanishad 27 — Verse 27

अन्तःपूर्णो बहिःपूर्णः पूर्णकुम्भ इवार्णवे ।

अन्तःशून्यो बहिःशून्यः शून्यकुम्भ इवाम्बरे ॥२७॥

IAST Transliteration

antaḥpūrṇo bahiḥpūrṇaḥ pūrṇakumbha ivārṇave |

antaḥśūnyo bahiḥśūnyaḥ śūnyakumbha ivāmbare ||27||

Translation

અંતરમાં પૂર્ણ અને બહાર પણ પૂર્ણ—સમુદ્રમાં ભરેલા કુંભ સમાન; અંતરમાં શૂન્ય અને બહાર પણ શૂન્ય—આકાશમાં ખાલી કુંભ સમાન.

Academic Translation

Inwardly full and outwardly full—like a filled jar in the ocean; inwardly empty and outwardly empty—like an empty jar in the sky.

Verse Context

• Pūrṇatā (fullness) of Brahman/Ātman; inner-outer non-difference; śūnyatā as privation (absence of realization) in Vedāntic framing
• Mahavakya: Echoes ‘sarvaṃ khalv idaṃ brahma’ and supports ‘tat tvam asi’ by indicating the same fullness within (ātman) and without (brahman/world as brahman) when knowledge dawns.
