सत्यप्रतिज्ञा-तपःसंवादः
Pārvatī’s Vow of Truth and the Dialogue on Her Tapas
पार्वत्युवाच । किं गमिष्यसि विप्रेन्द्र स्थितो भव हितं वद । इत्युक्ते च तया तत्र स्थित्वोवाच स दण्डधृक्
pārvatyuvāca | kiṃ gamiṣyasi viprendra sthito bhava hitaṃ vada | ityukte ca tayā tatra sthitvovāca sa daṇḍadhṛk
Pārvatī
Tattva Level: pashu
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: teaching
The verse highlights the Shaiva ideal of hita-upadeśa—seeking and receiving spiritually beneficial counsel. Pārvatī’s request models humility and the importance of satsanga (staying to hear dharmic instruction) as a support for devotion to Pati (Śiva) and inner purification.
Though the Liṅga is not named here, the narrative tone is devotional and instructional: Pārvatī invites guidance that typically culminates in Saguna Śiva-upāsanā—right conduct, right worship, and auspicious teachings that steady the mind toward Śiva, who is approached through form (Saguna) and realized in essence (Nirguna).
The practical takeaway is to remain in attentive listening (śravaṇa) to wholesome Shaiva instruction—an essential limb of bhakti. In practice this pairs well with daily japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and disciplined observances learned from a teacher.
