menovāca | duḥkhitāsi śive putrī tapastaptuṃ purā yadi | tapaścara gṛhe'dya tvaṃ na bahirgaccha pārvati
Menā
Tattva Level: pashu
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: teaching
It emphasizes disciplined, inward tapas guided by discernment—channeling sorrow into regulated spiritual effort rather than impulsive outward action, aligning with Shaiva ideals of self-restraint and purification.
By directing Pārvatī to practice austerity at home, the verse supports domestic, Saguna-oriented devotion—worship and remembrance of Shiva can be done inwardly and in a sanctified household space, not only through outward pilgrimage or extreme acts.
Home-based tapas: steady japa (especially the Panchākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), simple vrata-like restraint, and focused meditation—prioritizing inner discipline over outward wandering.
