कूजितं नूपुराणां च काञ्चीनां निनदं तथा।सन्निशम्य तत श्रीमान्सौमित्रिर्लज्जितोऽभवत्।।।।
kūjitaṃ nūpurāṇāṃ ca kāñcīnāṃ ninadaṃ tathā |
sanniśamya tataḥ śrīmān saumitrir lajjito ’bhavat ||
પછી નૂપુરોની ઝણઝણ અને કાઞ્ચીની રણઝણ સાંભળી, શ્રીમાન્ સૌમિત્રિ (લક્ષ્મણ) લજ્જિત અને સંયત થયો।
Illustrious Lakshmana felt abashed on hearing the jingling of girdle bells and tinkling of the women's anklets.
Maryādā (propriety) as dharma: Lakṣmaṇa’s shame reflects respectful boundaries regarding the private quarters and sensual surroundings.
Within the inner palace area, Lakṣmaṇa hears feminine ornaments and becomes self-conscious about being in such a space.
