Vali’s Funeral Rites and the Consolation of the Bereaved
अवरोप्य ततस्स्कन्धाच्छिबिकां वाहनोचिताः।तस्थुरेकान्तमाश्रित्य सर्वे शोकसमन्विता:4.25.37।।
avaropya tatasskandhāc chibikāṃ vāhanocitāḥ | tasthur ekāntam āśritya sarve śokasamanvitāḥ || 4.25.37 ||
પછી વાહનયોગ્ય વહનકારોએ શિબિકાને ખભા પરથી ઉતારી; એકાંત સ્થાનનો આશ્રય લઈને, બધા શોકથી વ્યાકુળ થઈ ઊભા રહ્યા।
Putting down the palanquin from their shoulders on the lonely spot, the bearers stood in tears-waiting.
Dharma is reflected as duty and decorum in crisis: the attendants perform their responsibility respectfully and withdraw in grief without disorder.
After Vāli has fallen, his body is brought on a palanquin; the bearers set it down in a secluded place, mourning.
Loyalty and disciplined service (sevā with maryādā) shown by the bearers even amid sorrow.
