Mohinī’s Speech
Mohinyāḥ Bhāṣaṇam
jananī kiṃ tu devi tvaṃ vṛṣāṃgadanṛpasya tu | na mayā hi parijñātā śramasveditayā śubhe || 22 ||
Unspecified in provided excerpt (a male character addressing a woman as ‘Mother’/‘Devi’ within the Uttara-Bhaga narrative)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
It highlights the theme of inner identity over outer appearance: a revered woman is not recognized due to physical hardship, underscoring compassion and discernment within dharmic narratives.
Indirectly, it supports bhakti values by modeling reverence (“Devi,” “Śubhe”) even amid misunderstanding—devotional culture trains one to honor the divine presence beyond external conditions.
Vyākaraṇa nuance is visible in respectful vocatives (devi, śubhe) and the genitive construction (vṛṣāṃgadanṛpasya), useful for precise reading of Purāṇic Sanskrit.
