Adhyaya 16 — The Son’s Counsel on Renunciation and the Anasuya–Mandavya Episode: The Suspension of Sunrise and the Power of Pativrata

The passage intensifies the reciprocity thesis: not only social order but even seasonal/cosmic progression is rhetorically tied to homa. The ethical implication is obligation—neglect of offerings is framed as destabilizing the shared world.
A maintenance-of-world teaching that complements Sarga/Pratisarga by describing sustaining mechanisms (yajña), and complements Manvantara by tying ritual to temporal divisions.
Agni’s ‘viharaṇa’ can signify the transformative principle (tapas/inner fire). Homa symbolizes intentional feeding of that principle; without it, ‘ayana’—the directed movement of life-force and time—does not ‘arise’ in an ordered way.
