अर्जुनस्य वधे क्रूरां करोति सम तदा मतिम् । इधर कर्ण भी नरकासुरकी अन्तरात्मासे आविष्टचित्त होनेके कारण अर्जुनका वध करनेके लिये क्रूरतापूर्ण संकल्प करने लगा
arjunasya vadhe krūrāṁ karoti saṁ tadā matim |
વૈશંપાયન બોલ્યા—ત્યારે તેણે અર્જુનના વધ માટે કઠોર અને નિર્દય નિશ્ચય કર્યો. નરકાસુર-સંબંધિત પ્રભાવથી અંતરમાં આવિષ્ટચિત્ત થઈ કર્ણનું મન વિકળ બન્યું અને તે અર્જુનને મારવા ક્રૂર સંકલ્પ કરવા લાગ્યો.
