Mārkaṇḍeya uvāca | gurubhir aniyamair yukto bharato nāma pāvakaḥ | agniḥ puṣṭimatir nāma tuṣṭaḥ puṣṭiṃ prayacchati | bharaty eṣa prajāḥ sarvās tato bharata ucyate |
માર્કંડેયે કહ્યું— યુધિષ્ઠિર! ‘ભરત’ નામનો એક પાવક અગ્નિ છે, જે ગુરુતર નિયમો અને કઠોર વ્રત-આચરણથી યુક્ત છે. તે પ્રસન્ન થાય ત્યારે પુષ્ટિ અને સમૃદ્ધિ આપે છે; તેથી તેનું એક નામ ‘પુષ્ટિમતિ’ પણ છે. તે સર્વ પ્રજાનું ભરણ-પોષણ કરે છે; તેથી તેને ‘ભરત’ કહેવામાં આવે છે।
