Dharma-vyādha’s Analysis of Moral Decline and the Mahābhūta–Guṇa Schema (धर्मव्याधोपदेशः)
तस्मात् सर्वास्ववस्थासु सर्वदानानि पार्थिव | दातव्यानि द्विजातिभ्य: स्वर्गमार्गजिगीषया
tasmāt sarvāsv avasthāsu sarvadānāni pārthiva | dātavyāni dvijātibhyaḥ svargamārga-jigīṣayā || japair mantraiś ca homaiś ca svādhyāyādhyayanena ca | nāvaṁ vedamayīṁ kṛtvā tārayanti taranti ca ||
માર્કંડેયે કહ્યું—અતએવ, હે રાજન, જીવનની સર્વ અવસ્થાઓમાં અને સર્વકાળે, સ્વર્ગમાર્ગ જીતવાની ઇચ્છા ધરાવનારએ દ્વિજોને દાન આપવું જોઈએ. જપ, મંત્રપાઠ, હોમ, સ્વાધ્યાય અને વેદાધ્યયન દ્વારા બ્રાહ્મણો ‘વેદમયી નૌકા’ રચે છે; એ નૌકાથી તેઓ અન્યને પણ પાર ઉતારે છે અને પોતે પણ પાર થાય છે।
