एतत्‌ ते सर्वमाख्यातं वैशम्पायनकीर्तितम्‌ । व्यासाज्ञया समज्ञातं सर्पसत्रे नूपस्य हि

Transliteration

etat te sarvam ākhyātaṃ vaiśampāyana-kīrtitam | vyāsājñayā samajñātaṃ sarpasatre nṛpasya hi ||

Translation

આ બધું મેં તમને સંપૂર્ણ રીતે કહી દીધું—રાજા જનમેજયના સર્પસત્રમાં વ્યાસની આજ્ઞાથી મુનિવર વૈશમ્પાયને જે ઇતિહાસ પ્રગટ કર્યો હતો. સાંભળીને અને પરંપરાથી પ્રાપ્ત થયેલી એ સમગ્ર ઇતિહાસ-પરંપરા હવે મેં તમારા સમક્ષ વર્ણવી છે.
