शल्यवधे कौरवसेनाभङ्गः, भीमस्य गदायुद्धं, दुर्योधनस्य समाह्वानम्

शकुनि बोला--नरेश्वर! युद्धस्थलमें रोषामर्षके वशीभूत हुए वीर स्वामीकी आज्ञाका पालन नहीं करते हैं; वैसी दशामें इनपर क्रोध करना उचित नहीं है। यह इनकी उपेक्षा करनेका समय नहीं है। हम सब लोग एक साथ हो मद्रराजके महाधनुर्धर सेवकोंकी रक्षाके लिये हाथी
sañjaya uvāca | evaṁ sarve ’nusañcintya prayayur yatra sainikāḥ | evam uktaḥ tadā rājā balena mahatā vṛtaḥ ||
શકુનિ બોલ્યો—“હે નરેશ્વર! યુદ્ધભૂમિમાં રોષ અને અપમાનના વશમાં આવેલા વીરો સ્વામીની આજ્ઞા પાળતા નથી; એવી સ્થિતિમાં એમના પર ક્રોધ કરવો યોગ્ય નથી. આ એમની ઉપેક્ષા કરવાનો સમય પણ નથી. આપણે સૌ એકસાથે થઈ મદ્રરાજના મહાધનુર્ધર સેવકોની રક્ષા માટે હાથી, ઘોડા અને રથ સહિત આગળ વધીએ અને મહાન પ્રયત્નથી પરસ્પર રક્ષા કરીએ.” સંજય બોલ્યા—આ રીતે સૌએ વિચાર કરીને જ્યાં સૈનિકો હતા ત્યાં પ્રસ્થાન કર્યું; અને રાજા, એમ કહેવામાં આવતાં, તે સમયે મહાન બળથી ઘેરાયેલો હતો।
