एवं वै परम धर्म प्रशंसन्ति मनीषिण: । प्राणा यथा55त्मनो5भीष्टा भूतानामपि वै तथा
evaṁ vai parama-dharmaṁ praśaṁsanti manīṣiṇaḥ | prāṇā yathā ātmano ’bhīṣṭā bhūtānām api vai tathā ||
ભીષ્મે કહ્યું—આ રીતે મનીષીઓ અહિંસારૂપ પરમ ધર્મની પ્રશંસા કરે છે. જેમ મનુષ્યને પોતાના પ્રાણ પ્રિય છે, તેમ જ સર્વ પ્રાણીઓને પણ પોતાના-પોતાના પ્રાણ પ્રિય છે।
