Ādi-parva Adhyāya 132 — Duryodhana’s Instructions to Purocana at Vāraṇāvata

ततः स वारुणास्त्रेण पूरयित्वा कमण्डलुम् । सममाचार्यपुत्रेण गुरुम भ्येति फाल्गुन:
tataḥ sa vāruṇāstreṇa pūrayitvā kamaṇḍalum | samam ācāryaputreṇa gurum abhyeti phālgunaḥ ||
પછી ફાલ્ગુન (અર્જુન) એ વારુણાસ્ત્ર વડે ક્ષણમાં પોતાનું કમંડળુ ભરી લીધું અને આચાર્યપુત્રની સાથે જ ગુરુની પાસે પહોંચી ગયો. તેથી કોઈપણ ગુણવૃદ્ધિમાં તે આચાર્યપુત્રથી પાછળ ન રહ્યો. આથી જ મেধાવી અર્જુન અશ્વત્થામાથી કોઈ બાબતમાં ઓછો ન રહ્યો; તે અસ્ત્રજ્ઞોમાં શ્રેષ્ઠ બન્યો અને ગુરુની સેવા-પૂજા તથા સતત અભ્યાસથી દ્રોણાચાર્યનો અત્યંત પ્રિય થયો.
