Droṇa’s Ācārya-Dakṣiṇā: Capture of Drupada and Division of Pāñcāla (द्रोण-आचार्यदक्षिणा)
ततो दुर्योधनस्तत्र हृदयेन हसन्निव | कृतकृत्यमिवात्मानं मन्यते पुरुषाधम:
tato duryodhanas tatra hṛdayena hasann iva | kṛtakṛtyam ivātmānaṃ manyate puruṣādhamaḥ ||
ત્યારે ત્યાં દુર્યોધન હૃદયમાં જાણે હસતો હોય તેમ—એ પુરુષાધમ—પોતાને કૃતકૃત્ય માનવા લાગ્યો. અંદરથી તેનું હૃદય છરીની ધાર જેવું તીખું હતું; પરંતુ બહારથી તે એવી મધુર વાતો કરતો હતો જાણે અમૃત ઝરતું હોય. સગા ભાઈ અને હિતૈષી સુહૃદની જેમ તે પોતે જ ભીમસેન માટે નાનાવિધ ભક્ષ્ય પદાર્થો પીરસવા લાગ્યો. ભીમસેન ભોજનના દોષથી અજાણ હતા; તેથી દુર્યોધને જેટલું પીરસ્યું, તે બધું તેમણે ખાઈ લીધું. આ જોઈ નીચ દુર્યોધન મનમાં જ આનંદિત થઈ પોતાને સફળ માનવા લાગ્યો.
